Question: a friend of mine had some ice cream about 3 years ago that he says was called “Colonial Peach” ice cream. He says that Blue Bunny made it but the company emailed me and said that they never made that flavor. I’ve tried Blue Bell, Hiland and Ben and Jerry’s. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I went to the Melody Farms website given in a previous post. Melody Farms bought out some of the ice cream producers monopolizing the situation. Like I said in a previous post, Blue Moon is made by Stroh’s-not Melody Farms, Mooney or any other.
It is an ice cream not a sherbert (response to above poster). I have been eating it (my favorite flavor) since the age of 6. I am 38 years old. My earliest memories are going to the Stroh’s ice cream parlour after my brother’s baseball games and getting it.
If you want a take home of this flavor (or others like Bubble Gum) go to a Stroh’s ice cream parlour and purchase it. It will cost you though. I paid almost $10 for a 1/2 gallon of Blue Moon. It was worth every penny.

Okay…my input re: Blue Moon Ice Cream. I have been craving a REAL blue moon ice cream cone for the last 15 years — but have yet to find the real thing. Stroh’s does make a blue ice cream but it’s not the real blue moon that contains little bits of pineapple - and the color is darker than the real blue moon (in fact, the Stroh’s blue moon looks like the darker blue found in “superman” ice cream). I’ve heard that Hershey’s Ice Cream Stores may carry the real blue moon but last year, when I traveled from Iowa to Michigan, we got to the door of the store and it was closed “out of business” (boo hoo) but there are other Hershey’s stores out there. You may want to check the yellow pages - I couldn’t find a list of store locations on the Hershey’s Ice Cream Stores web site (strange). If you find a store please let us all know if it’s the REAL thing! Until then..my search continues. I wonder if “Mooney’s Blue Moon” on Mackinaw is the real blue moon - if so, it may be worth a trip?
P.S. We used to buy our Blue Moon ice cream @ Richardson’s Dairy in SE Michigan.
Signed,
On a wild goose chase for the real blue moon (yes, all of my relatives think I’m crazy)

I have never eaten a Blue Moon ice cream that has bits of pineapple in it. There is a Hershey’s Ice Cream Parlor near me. It is located in downtown Farmington Michigan right at the corner of Grand River and Farmington Road. They have the Blue Moon I have eaten my whole life. There was no pineapple in it. Do you think the fruity flavor of Blue Moon is pineapple and coconut?

*drool* Mmmm, Blue Moon… Wow! I haven’t had Blue Moon ice cream for over 15 years. Sigh.
I’ve always loved ‘Blue Moon’. I’m eating Blueberry Cheesecake now, it’s from Haagen Dazs.
The only place I’ve seen Blue Moon was in Michigan… many, many years ago. An Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour had Blue Moon and Blueberry Cheesecake flavors. Then one day when I went back, it had closed. *sniff* I saw Mooney’s Blue Moon, but it wasn’t the same. Then it disappeared.
I loved the taste and color of the Ice cream. A very strange blue, more like turquiose maybe. Oh so delicious, rich, creamy, fruity…okay.
Hee hee…I saw someone mention the ‘Superman’ flavor. isn’t that sherbert? I remember trying that one when I was a kid, is that one still around? :o)

The original Blue Moon Ice Cream was made by Mooney’s Dairy in Saginaw Mi. Stroh’s bought out Mooney’s some time ago but they still make Blue Moon with the same recipe as did the Mooneys. There are many other flavors that are the Mooney’s recipes and there are some new ones too. Stroh’s ice cream is totally different and not as creamy and good as Mooney’s. The original Blue Moon does contain pineapple tidbits and the flaver is considered to be pineapple. The blue color was added to make it not so pale and to be different from vanilla. You can still buy it at Mooney’s Ice Cream Store on State St. in Saginaw. We just came from there and yes that had Blue Moon in the 3 gallon tubs just like they always have had it.

Blue Moon is available at Jones Icecream in Baldwin MI (Without the pineapple chunks). It is also available in Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach FL (With Pineapple chunks). In Fort Myers - Blue Pepper - corner of College PKWY and US 41, Fort Myers Beach - Love Boat Ice Cream - San Carlos BLVD. I think the flavoring might have something to do with Blue Curacao?

I am from Michigan and Blue moon has been my fave Ice cream since I was 3…maby even earlyer. I am 20 now. And all I can say is that it is better than a certain activity.
Anyways if you live in the Eastpointe, Roseville, St Clare shores area you can get it at the drive thrugh 24 hour Coney Island on 9 mile between Gratiot and Kelly.
I have never had it with Peinapple… must have been befor my time…sounds good though. All I know is that they added red and white pop rocks to it…I was thrown off at first but it is actualy kinda good. And now they added mini marshmalows to the mix..eewww. So basicly around here you have 3 differnt kinds of blue moon.It is however kinda hard to find just plane blue moon … I cry but I will live. Anyone else try the pop rocks mix yet? I heard somewere that they will be discontinuing the pop rocks and marshmello soon though.
Oh and some anoying hipster coffie house on 9 and I think Little Mack carryes it to. And this old timey ice cream/candy stand on 10 mile between Gratiot and Schoner They will sell it to you in gallon or half gallons. And a few other locations that I can’t think of now. I am just luckey enough to have a few good places to get it when ever I want

I have been looking for Blue Moon ice cream for years! I got my first taste of it at a little ice cream shop called “The Caboose” in Gaston, Indiana. I live in the Indianapolis area now and have had a lot of trouble trying to find it. However, tonight I just hit paydirt! The Handel’s frozen custard stand in Fishers, Indiana (off of 116th street) has it. It is pretty close to the blue moon of my childhood, but it is a little bit darker in color. The taste is quite good, but I would give my two front teeth to have the real thing. If anyone knows of another place I can find it in the Indianapolis area, please tell me! Until then, I’m gonna be at Handel’s every night!

Did anybody here ever eat at the old Mooney’s store on Gratiot and S. Webster in Saginaw? I grew up about a mile away from it, so we went a lot. I went back to town, and it’s now a Rite-Aid. I guess the store is no more.
Anyway, Mooney’s is a Michigan company that makes many, many flavors of ice cream. If I recall correctly, most ice cream uses about 8% milkfat — Mooney’s uses 12%. So yeah, not too good for the ol’ arteries, but it’s soo much richer than most ice cream. And of course, delicious.
My mom invented (or claims to be the inventor of) quite an invention: an ice cream sandwich made with chocolate chip cookies and superman ice cream. Sounds odd, but quite delicious

I just went to TCBY and got the ‘Rainbow Cream’. It’s just vanilla ice cream with bright colors. Blah. It didn’t really have a good taste either.
I forgot what flavor ‘Superman’ ice cream was. Anyone know?
Also, I found Blue Bunny ‘Blues Clues’ Ice cream. It’s blue vanilla ice cream with blue cookies. Not too bad, but I still want my Blue Moon. Nothing comes close. It’s the best!

Sounds like some of us may have varying ideas of the “REAL” Blue Moon. I, personally, have no idea which one is the origional but I do know that the Blue Moon I grew up with did not have pineapple chuncks, nor did it taste like pineapple. The “real” Blue Moon I know, love and have desperately trying to transport from MI to VA does not taste like anything else. My very first “real” job was at an ice cream parlor (mom and pop run) in a small but touristy town and whenever people came in and asked about Blue Moon (or asked for my recomendation lol) all I could tell was “try it for yourself, it has it’s own flavor”-many tried to name the flavor but 99% agreed…”it tastes like “BLUE”!”.
Gosh, I have forgotten ALL about Superman flavor ice cream! The name sure rings a bell but I can’t remember anything about it!
So, like many…I continue my search of how to get Blue Moon to where I live now! lol

For all you downtown Chicagoans dying for Blue Moon, go to the Swiss Gourmet Ice Cream shop at 2187 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lincoln Park. Their phone number is 773/755-4616. They will hand pack a pint for you. FYI–this Blue Moon tastes just like the Stroh’s that I had as a child in Michigan over 30 years ago–sky blue in color and definitely no pineapple.
I have a (half-eaten) pint from Swiss Gourmet in my freezer right now. My husband thinks I’m nuts when I go for a “Blue Moon run”–but I think it’s worth every yummy calorie!
Nutmeg, huh? I would have never guessed it, but now that you mention it, it does make sense. Any other standout ingredients in Blue Moon? Now, you’ve got me incredibly curious.

Blue Moon Ice Cream
I’m 36 yrs old, and it’s been my all-time favorite since I was a kid.
I’ve done a lot of digging over the years, and there’s surprising little information about Blue Moon ice cream. Not only that, but the places that actually make the stuff are extremely reluctant to say anything about it. Ask them sometime, and you will see. Most shrug their shoulders.
The claim that Blue Moon was created by Mooney’s Dairy in Saginaw is just that - a claim. Saginaw, indeed. In my hunting I’ve come across no less than 12 companies/parlours that lay claim to being the originators of Blue Moon. There is absolutely no hard evidence that it was created in Michigan - or Wisconsin for that matter.
In fact, though Michigan and Wisconsin are the two main states that seem to carry Blue Moon, there’s a bit of evidense that actually points further East on that map. More on that later.
Beware of anyone that tells you pineapple was part of the original Blue Moon, or should be in the ice cream today. Absolutely nothing I’ve found says that pineapple is an ingredient of Blue Moon. Local variations may have added pineapple, but every old timer I’ve asked scratches their head over that one. Pineapple indeed.
Having grown up in Grand Rapids, Michigan Blue Moon was everywhere. For West Michigan, Hudsonville Ice Cream was the main supplier during the 70s and 80s. Still may be today. Briefly - very briefly - in the late 80s they sold Blue Moon in grocery stores. It never caught on, and they stopped.
I’ve had it in several places and Wisconsin, and none of them tasted like what I was raised on. That doesn’t mean that Michigan Blue Moon is the original - or better - just different. Again, no one seems to really know what the original really is…
The best, and I do mean the BEST Blue Moon that I’ve had comes from Sherman’s Dairy in South Haven, Michigan. Sherman’s makes all their ice cream right there. In the summertime, be prepared to stand in some seriously long lines! They sell Blue Moon right outta the freezer as well - half gallon, gallon, buckets, etc. Trust me when I say that it’s the creamiest, most amazing Blue Moon you will ever have.
Now we get to the good part: WHERE did Blue Moon come from and WHAT is in it?
There are a few things I learned that are a bit interesting: I talked with managers at both Hudsonville Ice Cream and Sherman’s about Blue Moon. For Hudsonville, I just called up and spoke with the floor manager on duty and asked him, point blank, what’s in Blue Moon Ice Cream? On a visit to Sherman’s a few years ago I asked for the owner. He wasn’t in, but again I got the floor manager. Neither would say. In fact, it goes deeper than that. They weren’t being secretive or reluctant. They seemed to actually not know! After much persistance, I was finally able to get some information out of both.
They don’t know what’s in Blue Moon ice cream. And that’s the truth.
That wasn’t the most shocking aspect of this story. The most bizarre thing of all is that both actually admitted that the flavoring for Blue Moon comes from……are you ready….a pre-mixed package.
Yup.
Indeed.
I was as shocked as you.
Where did they get this pre-mix packaged goodness? Both of them wouldn’t tell me the exact source. However, they would tell me that it was from a company in Pennsylvania. Now, stop and think about this: BOTH of them admitted to this fact. If I have to go with some kinda truth in all this Blue Moon Madness, I’ll put my money there.
I shall leave you all with a little tale of science and modern technology.
By 1988 I’d had enough. I NEEDED to know what was in Blue Moon. A friend from high school was attending the University of Michigan as a chemistry student; working in one of the many forensic pathology departments.
Perfect.
If anyone could figure out what the hell was in Blue Moon, he could. I got him a small sample; carefully packed away in a shot glass wrapped with Saran wrap. Hey, it was the best I could do at the time.
Weeks went by. Nothing. Finally, I get a call. He and several friends had been analyzing the strange blue liquid I had given them (I did tell them that it was ice cream), and it had become sort of an obsession. They ran several tests on the substance, did a bunch of extractions, and had run into a brick wall.
They couldn’t say exactly WHAT was in the stuff.
Oh sure, there were some easy markers that showed up right away: diary, sucrose, a slew of unspellable preservative compounds…. Expected stuff.
But as to what actually gave the ice cream it’s distinct flavor they couldn’t really say. All their tests did reveal that other compounds were present, but they couldn’t identify any of them.
Except one.
Nutmeg.

We are 56 years old and have been big fans of Blue Moon all our lives. Both of us are from Ludington, Michigan and have been led to believe that Blue Moon was originated by the Neal family that owned and operated the Park Dairy, now known as House of Flavors. It’s still our favorite! When I come back to Ludington for a visit, the first place I go is the House of Flavors for my Blue Moon fix, even before visiting family. I dream about it back in Connecticut. All this talk about Blue Moon and I’m ready for my second cone of the day!

I can’t believe there are so many others who love Blue Moon as much as me…and the memories of growing up in Michigan and going to Stroh’s during the summer in the back of an old Ford pick up to get it. I live in Florida now and have never found it anywhere. A relative actually bought the huge commercial containers of it at Strohs, packed it in dry ice, and brought it down. Needless to say it was gone in 10 days. If anyone knows an easier way to get it in the Tampa Bay area, let me know.

I’m eating SUPERMAN ICE CREAM RIGHT NOW! I love it, I found this site by typing in “I love superman ice cream”!!! Haha…for the ingredients: milk, cream, sugar, corn syrup, whey, artifical flavoring, vanilla extract, mono and diglycerides, malic acid, cellulose gum, guar gum, carrageenan, turmeric (color), FD&C blue no. 1, FD&C red no 40, canillin (artificial flavor). SO MORE OR LESS: VANILLA FLARORED ICE CREAM AND ARTICIALLY FLAVORED COTTON CANDY ICE CREAM –> or as the box claims. As a kid I used to think it was vanilla, blue moon, and strawberry… I used to eat it as a kid at Meijer’s in Ann Arbor, Mi. Now that I’m a senior at Michigan State, I for the first time found it in a small box at the Meijer’s in Okemos (their kind is called “Scooperman”). Same thing ofcourse! Hope that helped! ~Jill

I was made by Melody Farms. they also own Strohs, Saunders and more. if you go to http://www.melodyfarms.com they also make superman and other stuff i have seen people ask for on here. if you go to “contact us” they give you an 800 phone number to call for orders. URGENT:
Has anyone ever heard of “Piece o’ Cake” ice cream? I have had it once at some little rinky-dink ice cream shop years ago and haven’t seen it since. I can’t find anyone that makes it, I can’t even rememeber if that is the name of it. It is basically vanilla ice cream with chunks of yellow cake in it. I would like to know where I can find some, as I am looking to get some as a special treat for my girlfriend for valentine’s day (it’s her favorite flavor). Any place that would ship it to me? I am located in NY.

Bruce’s post (reproduced below) is correct. I grew up with Joe Mooney (of the Mooney’s Dairy family) in Saginaw, MI. He confirmed this with me in a conversation we had about 30 years ago! The “Moon” in Blue Moon is a reference to his dad, who devised the flavor. I’m not sure about the other posters here claiming lots of other sources of Blue Moon ice cream — but can only guess that they were knock-offs or possibly licensed through Mooney’s…
You can still buy it at Mooney’s Ice Cream Store on State St. in Saginaw. We just came from there and yes they had Blue Moon in the 3 gallon tubs just like they always have had it.

Although I don’t know if it’s been mentioned or not before, I’ve found several places in Illinois over the years serving the elusive Superman ice cream that I so covet. For starters, I believe the best of the bunch is at a Breyer’s stand, most notably the one in Gurnee Mills, Gurnee. Sadly, I think take home was a little pricey, but more than worth it. I’m in Bloomington, IL right now, and I know the Kroger stores have a gallon for $4 (of which I am sucking on right now) that is good, albeit not as good at some others. In Carol Stream, there used to be a TCBY that had just the most wonderful Rainbow/Superman ice cream, but it’s not there any longer. If you can find a TCBY near you, it’s great.
However, concerning the flavors, everyone has a different theory of what it is. I don’t taste anything really fruity about it, or much of a variation between colors, personally. I always thought it might have a slight hint of bubblegum, but I think it tastes far better. Still, not really sure. Hershey’s says it’s banana, strawberry, and blueberry, but I hate all those flavors, myself. O_o Oh well.
I’d like to try some of that Blue Moon, though. I’ve never heard of it before!

I was searching for ice cream online & happened to come across these posts accidentally. I have lived all my life in Michigan and while I have finally learned that Meijers aren’t nationwide, and that Grand Rapids has an extraordinary amount of churches compared to other area I never had a clue we had limited ice cream!!! I’m now afraid to move away from home, LOL. Growing up, after the sunday night service, half of our church would head over to an ice cream shop in Dorr called the Dairy Ranch- common practice!
Anyhoo- onto important matters– camping last year I tried an *awesome* flavor called Chocolate Monster it had been bought in a large tub/bucket. I cannot find it anywhere!! Its chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls & chocolate covered peanuts. I’ve been searching ice cream sites but have yet to find anything. Does anybody know who makes it or where I could find it??

BLUE MOON - is also made in Scottsdale, Az. by a small shop that was featured in SUNSET magazine. They ship upon request. The store is called AUNTIE EM’S. The owner says it’s a very popular flavor with roots originating in the midwest. Now mostly a “blue moon” flavoring; however, originally — spoke with the lead chemmist at the flavoring company that supplies Hershey’s and other proprietary frozen confection businesses — it was a mish-mash of flavors. Old ice creams melted down, combined, and then refrozen. Yes, some pineapple used to be involved, rarely now however, along with a little pistachio (probably where you get your nutmeg tones), and some marshmallow. I believe Food Coloring was added to turn it a more desireable colour. Now it’s simply a blue ice cream that isn’t made, but flavored. Afterwards some people put various bits in there, one being pineapple. Some people use it as their base flavor for SUPERMAN ice cream as well.
Oh yea, I’m the owner of Auntie Em’s! Have a background in chemsitry and went to grad school for bio-physics. I looove ice cream. nice little posts. have a great day.

Blue Moon, Superman, and Bubble Gum ice creams were all favorites growing up with a summerhome in Sister’s Lake, Michigan. We had the Cone Dock on Round Lake that carried Sherman Dairy Icecream with all those flavors. If we were up for a 30 minute drive we would head up to South Haven, Michigan to the original Sherman Dairy or the Tin Roof (I think it was called) in the middle of nowhere, Michigan. We now currently have a summerhome in South Haven. It is great to be able to find Sherman Dairy at any of the local Icecream Shops, Beach Concession Stands, Local Grocery Stores, and especially the original Sherman Dairy on Pheonix Rd. There was an icecream shop in Chicago on Diversery and East of Clark St. that carried Sherman Dairy Ice Cream, but it closed. Where can I find it in Chicago?

Blue Moon tastes like:
Marshmallow, but not
Orange, but not
Mint, but not
It’s indescribable. Cedar Crest makes it, but refuses to ship it. Bastards!
I just had a sugar cone of it today @ the Milwaukee County Zoo. It’s hard to find in the grocery store during the winter. But in the summer it’s a tradition.
Someone was asking about Cinnamon Ice Cream, Cedar Crest makes that as well.

and know nowhere to be found, please help

Ok, so here is the deal, Melody Farms owns Mooney’s and Stroh’s, so I guess u could say all of them make Blue Moon, although it is usually sold under the Stroh’s name, at least it was a few months ago at the icecream store i worked at. Furthermore, Mooney’s dioscontinued Bubblegum and replaced it with Cotton Candy. Also, the only place I have seen grape icecream is at Dairy Queen, you have to get it in a Blizzard style though, it is very good!

I am looking for Bubblegum Ice …NOT the kind from Baskin Robbins…I don’t like it. I grew up in Michigan and now live in Texas and CANNOT find the REAL bubble gum ice cream. Does anyone know a company that sells it online? ALSO does anyone know a company that makes and sells Grape Sherbet? My husband likes the Flintstone Push Ups, the grape ones. Yeah he’s a kid. Any info will help. Thanks a bunch

The days of eating blue moon in Ludington, MI at the House of Flavors or in Pontiac, MI. I always had it without the pineapple (why would they ever add pineapple?) Craig in Tarpon, I work for the city. I remembered some TV newscrew asking people what a blue moon was and I would have said ice cream. They probably thought I fell from a tree!!!

Can anyone please tell me where to find the original BLUE MOON flavored ice cream in the state of Pennsylvania? I haven’t seen it for twenty years.
Please Please, Thank You

I just think that it is too funny that there are so many people in search of blue moon ice cream. I have been wanting to start a small business of my own and maybe I should think of starting an ice cream shoppe that specializes in blue moon. LOL. I had my first taste ever of blue moon ice cream today at, are you ready, a chinese restaurant. Growing up, I remember seeing blue moon at the ice cream shops but never got it, what a mistake, this stuff is great. The entire time eating it today I kept wondering just what the flavor was…. I guess I’m not alone. So, now on to the quest of finding it in my area that I can take home. You can find blue moon ice cream in Columbus, Indiana at the chinese buffet in the Eastbrook Plaza on 25th street.

I grew up on Mooney’s ice cream in Saginaw MI and now I live in FL. I’m going back next month for a wedding and want to have some while there. I have celiac disease which means I can’t have gluten (no wheat, barley, oats or rye). I want to know if anyone knows if Mooney’s ice cream contains gluten (I know I would have to avoid the ones with cookies ect.) But would love to enjoy some good ice cream while there. Thanks. Sandee

I get blue moon at Captain Nemo’s in South Haven, MI. My dad is from there and all 13 cousins and I go to Nemo’s every get together and pig out. it is an unexplainable flavor–where can we get it down south??!!

My friend Doug and I were just discussing Blue Moon and so I ended up here while searching. I used to get it in my hometown at Mooney’s on Gratiot in Saginaw, along with Superman and the best ice cream of all time - Mint Chocolate Chip! My mom and I would go and sit in the store with it’s old fashioned deco and charm, have our ice cream and they would bring us a big cool glass of water to chase it down with. Aaaahhhh!

My folks have an Ice cream store and they have been trying for a year to find a commercial mix for this Blue Moon flavor. People from the midwest come in all the time and are soooo disappointed they don’t have it. Anyone out there ever make it up from a commercial mix? Funny, I hear you can get it at Annie’s in Lk Geneva, Wi. I lived there for 8 years and never tried it. Blue ice cream. Who knew?
Comment by Laura — July 31, 2004 @ 8:43 am
I grew up in Mt. Clemens Michigan and my fondest memory is all the neighborhood gang piling in the back of a pickup and going down to a little ice cream parlor on South River Rd. and getting Blue Moon ice cream…………my favorite flavor. There is no other flavor that compaires to this classic one. I now live in San Diego CA and there is no one that carries this flavor! Oh well I still have my memories.

I grew up in Kenosha Wisconsin and we used to buy Chicago Brick Ice Cream. It was vanilla, orange, and caramel seperated like neopolitan. I think Sealtest made it,but I am not sure? Does anyone remember it? It was during the 70’s. If so, do you know if it is still being made? Does anyone sell it and where?

I just finished eating a bowl of Superman ice cream, yummy. I live in NE Indiana and It’s been my favorite since I was little and I’m now 25. I’ve never had a problem finding it. I got this tub at the grocery store named “Kroger’s”.
Comment by Vic — August 25, 2004 @ 12:36 pm
I just came across Stroh’s ice cream at a Minonite store named Fisher’s close to Bedford, PA. I thought the flavor sounded good so I bought it. Bear Claw is the flavor and I have to say that it’s the BEST flavor ice cream I’ve EVER had in my 44 years! I live in Maryland and don’t know if they carry it in my area but I’ll be sure to look high and low!

Blue Moon ice cream seems to be a Midwest thing. Have only found it in Michigan and Wisconsin. In Neenah Wi there is a deli downtown ie: Uncle Ned’s Deli that sells it, also an ice cream shop in Bailey’s Harbor in Door County sells it. The first place I ever had it was many, many years ago in Michigan, Manistee to be specific. I love it and when I come back to the Midwest I always have it. Haven’t found it anywhere else as of yet.

If I may try to identify Chicago Brick for Sandi Paslawsky (from August), my father claimed to have invented the flavor while in grade school, working for the (former) family business, Drexel Ice Cream Company of Chicago. Unfortunately, Drexel’s been out of business for quite some time (having merged with Hawthorn Melody in the late 70’s/early 80’s). That Dad actually had a hand in the creation of Chicago Brick is certainly to be taken with more grains of salt than go into the ice cream itself! But Drexel was founded by my grandfather, and they did sell Chicago Brick (I remember it well). Dad was the youngest of all the kids that used to work in the plant in the early days and Dad took a lot of history with him when he died 3 years ago. Sorry I couldn’t point you to a current source.

Wow, and I thought I was the ONLY one!! I love Mooney’s I grew up in Pinconning (near Saginaw, MI) and used to get it from the time I was old enough to climb on the stool at the city dairy (on M13 in Linwood -tore down about 25 years ago) and point it out!! I’m about to turn 35 and have never ever lost my love and cravings for Blue Moon and Superman (have you tried the new Play Doh? had it when I was home last summer) I love SUPERMAN and blue moon. Hubby is air force and we’ve been everywhere, mostly east, but have never EVER found the real thing except back home in MI where I faithfully eat it til I’m sick every summer when I visit! And when I was pregnant my folks had to load up the freezer in the motor home with it and come on down
Hope you all find it, I’d love to be able to order home delivery for it!

*** RE: VERNORS ICE CREAM by Sanders ***
The Morley Candy company now owns and markets the Sanders line of candys, cakes, etc. They are NOT currently making Vernor’s Ice Cream (though I also hope they will soon). I just read in a Detroit area newspaper that there is now a Sanders Shop open in Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia. They have Hot Fudge Cream Puffs !!!
I understand when they opened, there was a line to get in. The store is not as we remember it from our childhoods, no lunch counter, no paper cone water cups in chrome holders, but they do have a line of Sander’s candies and cakes and some ice cream flavors. Enjoy, haven’t been there myself yet, but hope to make the trip soon.

I believe the third flavor in Chicago Brick Ice Cream is/was maple and not caramel as Sandi Paslawsky stated. I think you have to go to Cold Stone and see if they will make up the three flavors. I think I’ll try that, since I miss it also.

strohs bought the saunders Ice cream line about 3 years ago ..and in grocery stores in the metro detroit area, they have released some flavors (about eight or so I think, under the saunders name called parlor classics) while the others remain under the strohs name. very good!..ill check out this store in laural park..(I loved saunders as a kid in the livonia mall for many years)..didnt get to see the original one downtown on woodward ,was way too young when it closed,i think its some cosmetics shop or something now.

I’ve been looking for Chicago Brick ice cream for a long time. Dean’s use to make it, but they stopped. I tried icecream.com and I tried the Cold Stone idea. Cold Stone does not have Maple ice cream. That is the problem, the Maple ice cream. I can buy the orange and the vanilla, but I can’t find the Maple.

I just visited the melody farms web page and it was out of order. Come to find out Melody farms was auctioned off in Sept 2004. I was looking foward to going home to Michigan and buying a half gallon of superman ice cream for like $3.00. Needless to say I am very very upset. Superman Ice cream is my favorite flavor ever. Now I have no choice but to spend $10 on a quart of Superman from Kilwins(because thats the only other pelace to get the real Superman)I feel so disapointed. I bet if the people at melody farms knew how popular superman ice cream was they could have sold it nationwide and made a ton of money. -So sad in florida

blue moon ice cream that is found at kilwins fudge shop in northern michigan.
I just had one last night(i live in northern michigan) it was just like the ones i remember having as a child here in the 70’s. I came home and tried to reproduce it and i think i have it almost perfect!! I can’t tell a difference and i just had the real thing last night!
make a regular vanilla ice cream recipe, and to the mixture before you put it in your ice cream maker add raspberry flavor oil(or pureed frozen raspberries) , lemon extract, and i added two teaspoons of vanilla pudding mix for a custard texture and flavor….thats it!!!!!

I live in Rochester NY and they only place to get blue moon ice cream was at a snack shack in Gowanda, NY or buy from Perrys ice cream in Akron,NY. I loved it as a kid and my kids looked forward to our stop at the shack to get the blue moon. Last time we went, it burned down. :(.
I called Perrys. They stopped making it. :(.
The blue moon I had was orange/pineapple ice cream and tinted blue. Any place in Upstate NY to get my BM fix other than ordering online?
