Lazytown

Filed under: TV — Diane @ 9:38 am

This new show, Lazytown, just debuted on Nick Jr. Sophia asked to watch it. Then she wanted to watch more. The show’s been on a week and it’s the only thing she wants to watch.

Given that it’s a show that wants to inspire kids to get up and move, I’m not sure that’s a good sign. But it’s actually a very, very entertaining show.

sportacus2.jpg Lazytown is the story of (where else?) Lazytown, where both superhero Sportacus and supervillain Robbie Rotten live. Sportacus is into health and activity and eating good food. Robbie wants everyone to be lazy and eat junk food. robbierotten.jpg

stephanie_1.jpgEight-year-old Stephanie moves to town and becomes friends with Sportacus and the other kids in town (all of whom are puppets), and they foil Robbie’s schemes. And periodically Stephanie, in her bright pink hair and bright pink dress, bursts into a technopop number.

Do not get high before watching this show. I’m just saying.

I sat down to watch this show with Sophia and I definitely had a good time. The themes of the episodes are pretty obvious, but entertainingly done. The importance of getting your sleep, the importance of eating well and choosing an apple over candy, the importance of being honest over telling a lie. I just wish Sophia wanted to get up and bop with Stephanie when she’s doing one of her techno numbers.

The strange accents of Sportacus and Robbie Rotten, the bright colors, and the technopop interludes made me wonder: is this Scandinavian or something? So I looked it up on the Web and no, it’s Icelandic. Yes, Icelandic. And it’s evidently this huge conglomerate, with books and stage shows and all sorts of spinoffs.

My question for my vast audience of Icelandic readers (hi there): was this show originally broadcast in English? Or did they do two versions: the English for export and Icelandic for home?

Update: I’ve closed comments on this entry because I’m getting very, very tired of deleting comments about how “hot” Stephanie is. Guys, she’s 13 oe 14. Find someone your own age. (And if I’ve let any such comments go by, let me know: n k a ( a t ) n o b o d y - k n o w s - a n y t h i n g . c o m.

  1. The website says that “The LazyTown TV show is premiering on NickelodeonÂ’s Nick Jr. channel starting August 16, 2004″, so it presumably hasn’t yet been shown in Iceland or anywhere else.

  2. My twins (just turned five) love this show. I have to “accidentally” delete the recordings from the TiVo after a few viewings, for my sanity. They do jump around and dance, but it’s been a week and I’m seriously hating the theme song — probably because it’s been requested that I sing it at bedtime every night. I have weird kids.

But thank you, Sportacus, for making bedtime easier. Louisa hates going to bed. Now, we go to bed at exactly 8.08 (when Sportacus does!) and when she does her “I hate sleeping” mantra, I reply, “What does Sportacus say?” “Sleep gives me energy! I’m going to sleep right NOW!”

  3. I just stumbled upon this site, but I think I can answer your question. I’m Icelandic and I can tell you that the show has not been shown here in Iceland. I’ve read in some paper that the show will be dubbed (shudder) after each and every episode has been completed when and if it will be shown here (I hope not, dubbed live acting is just horrible! The horror!).

There was a theater performance (live acting) in Iceland a few years ago, and a sequel some time after that (if memory serves). Those were of course in Icelandic. Then they distributed the video of that performance so everyone and their grandma has probably watched it in Iceland :)
Just for fun: Lazy Town is called Latibær in Icelandic, Sportacus is called “Íþróttaálfurinn” (loosely translates as “the sport elf”) and Robbie Rotten is “Glanni Glæpur”.

  4. When are the music CDs being released in the US????

    Comment by Karyn — August 24, 2004 @ 10:14 am

  5. Hi,
Lazytown is based on an Icelandic TV “show” called Latibaær which has been running for a few years along with live appearances in schools and other places. In Iceland this has not been a full show but a 10 to 15 minute episode aired within the children program. Lazytown also has a radio station airing full time for kids. They have been successful and done innovative things to encourage positive behaviour and habits. For example there was a game going on where kids kept a diary where they would get points for good behaviour and food but minus points for candy, soda and going late to sleep. They then got rewards that were sponsored by companies (no candy). This was very popular and I heard from friends of mine (my kids are to young to appreciate Lazytown, 4 months to 3 year) that they could not offer sodas and cake in birthday parties, the kids complained. I also know someone within the Pepsi distributor in Iceland who told me that they marked a 6% drop in sales of soda during the game. So, yes, Lazytown has been a successful thing in Iceland but the concept is played out differently than in the US.

  6. Visitors to my site ROCK. Thank you for the info. Iceland is clearly different from the US: the TV show would have been the *first* thing planned, along with spinoff beach towels, books, and candy. The irony of a kids’ fitness show having candy would have totally escaped most people.

I love the kids complaining about soda and cake at parties. That would *never* happen here.

I kind of like the name “Sport Elf.”

(I also love the fact that commenters from Iceland have no problem commenting on my entries, whereas if I found a blog from Iceland I’d be like, “Wow, cool dipthong letters, I wonder what the text says.” Being multilingual is COOL.)

  7. Iceland IS Scandinavia……
    really, nobody knows anything!

  8. You know, I realized after I posted this (and my husband tsk-tsk’d) that Iceland was part of Scandinavia, but I try not to edit what I originally put down.

You know, I see via Google the website goscandinavia.com lists Finland as part of Scandinavia, and I have been thwomped on this very same journal for saying any such thing. So indeed: NKA. What say ye, Icelanders: is Finland part of Scandinavia?

    Comment by Diane Patterson — August 25, 2004 @ 3:46 pm

  9. Hmmm. In the strictest geographical sense, scandinavia refers to the peninsula occupied by Norway and Sweden. Generally speaking it usually refers to Norway, Sweden, Denmark and even includes Finland and Iceland. Especially if you are refering to “the scandinavian countries”. The usual way out of this is to use the term “Nordic countries” wich covers them all with out anybody correcting you.

    Bjorn, another Icelander…

    Comment by Bjorn — August 27, 2004 @ 12:26 am

  10. Scandinavian countries are, for practical purposes, countries where the majority of the countries’ ancestors (and culture) are of Scandinavian (Norse) decent. Iceland comes across to most outsiders as the most hard-core stereotypically Scandinavian country. The other Scandinavian countries are Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Faroe Islands. Finland doesn’t make the grade. It is a Nordic country but not Scandinavian. On the other hand, Iceland and the rest of Scandanavia qualify as “Nordic” as well.
“LazyTown” is a wonderful show and its theme and characters´names are positively brilliant.

  11. 2 thumbs up!! I’m a fitness professional with 4 small children. IMO ‘Lazytown’ is the BEST kid’s show on TV. It’s about time someone else out there promoted wellness for children. The US has a terribly high obesity rate among youngsters. Instead of climbing trees, riding bikes, running around with friends & skating, they sit & snack all day. The show is HIGHLY entertaining & promotes good health habits! The music is great & the cast is AWESOME! Sportacus is cool, Stephanie is adorable & Rob Rotten is hilarious- his antics remind me of Jim Carey. My children really enjoy the show & I can hardly sit still during the songs. Way to go, Magnus! Your show is a winner in my book!

  14. The actor who plays Sportacus is the Main Force behind the show, Magnus Scheving. He came up with the idea, created the first book (Go, Go, Lazytown), starred in the stage shows, and writes, produces, and stars in the TV show.

  15. this show is facinating to watch! my kids are in school now but I just happened to see it as I flipped through the channels one morning. The actor playing Robbie Rotten is dynamic, definately reminds you of Jim Carey. I think this show will be a hit, and Sportacus is a hunk, I’m sure more moms will watch too. Stefanie is a doll.

    Comment by Mel — September 2, 2004 @ 7:39 pm

  16. The show is very addictive!!!
Stephanie, the “8″ year old girl (She is actually thirteen) used to be on Broadway somewhere. I have been to nickjr.com and read the message boards and everything. A lot say that Robbie is similar to Jim Carey in a way. http://www.lazytown.com gives a lot of info too. They should show it earlier in the mornings, since almost everyone is in school. LazyTown is a turning point in children’s television…in my opinion.

  20. I’m curious about the dubbing, too. I had to watch the same episode this morning and then again this afternoon with my 3 year old son, and I watched the synching closely but still couldn’t figure it out. The sound seems off by a few milliseconds but the lips seem to move along with the English dialogue — for example, in the first episode, when Stephanie asks, “Are you a superhero?” and Sportacus says, “Let’s say I’m a little bit above-average hero.” I’d be very curious to know what the Icelandic line was that synched so perfectly with the English one.

I did notice that the shots with English in them (e.g. the SOS note in Sportacus’s blimp) don’t show his face, so perhaps parts are re-shot in different languages?

  21. Hi I’m an icelander so I can tell you that the show is filmed in english and has never been shown in Iceland :( But I can tell you how it would be in Icelandic. It would be something like this: Stephanie: “Ert þú ofurhetja?” Sportacus: “Segjum að ég sé örlítið hærra settur en venjuleg hetja”

    Comment by Silja Rut — September 7, 2004 @ 11:29 am

  22. My 6 and 4 year old LOVE this show - as soon as the episode ends they are asking to play it outside! I absolutely love the soundtrack - so much better than the britney crud on the radio and so cool to dance to! This is a winner!

  23. It would be something like this: Stephanie: “Ert þú ofurhetja?” Sportacus: “Segjum að ég sé örlítið hærra settur en venjuleg hetja”

I think its a great show, if ur trying to inspire ur little ones I suggest you get up and dance around urself with them, watch them get up and join u.

I really don’t think that we should worry to much where the show originated, kids love it and its a show with great ideas so far.

My daughter has fallen in love with Lazy Town. It is a zany musical show with a gymnastic superhero and a wonderfully evil bad guy. The premise behind the show is interesting: The philosophy of LazyTown is to activate children…

  38. You have got to be kidding…this show is like the worst. My boys don’t like it…7,4, and 2. It’s like a combination of the Compfy Couch,Power Rangers, and RocketPower as puppets. Nick Jr really took a good formula for a line up of preschool shows and messed with it. Nick has way too many puppet orientated shows and plays them two and three times daily. Once is enough…children need variety for stimulation. All the their good shows they moved to Noggin.

  39. My husband is really excited about Lazytown in fact he is the one who told me about the new program. He watches it in the morning with our five year old. Of course she wants to be Stephanie for Halloween. I thought what a great Party Theme; Lazytown along with Veggies, Fruits and various activities.

  40. My 3-year-old enjoys this show very much. It comes at a very good time as he is somewhat growing bored of Dora and Blues. Plus, IMO it’s a better alternative for his age than Spongebob and Rugrats/All Grown Up/Rocket Power. It’s great to watch him try to pull all of Sporticus’ moves on the living room carpet. Unfortunately, I am cast as Robbie Rotten when it comes to playing. I too am looking for Lazytown merchandise, but have only found a theme remix CD on ebay. It doesn’t appear like they planned to have all the items most shows have shortly after they launch (playsets, action figures, etc.). It reminds me of how hard it was to find Roly Poly Olie stuff when it started showing.

I feel the need to admit to a bunch of adults that I discovered and started watching the show before I let my kids in on the secret (hehe). I think Stephanie is such a cutie, and I have used her as my user icon for my personal journal. I now have to find a Stephanie costume for my 2 1/2 yr old and something lazytown related for our son who’s 1 and 1/2. I love it when my kids start dancing. Anyway, enough rambling. 43. I think a lot of us parents are wondering what we are going to do about Halloween costumes! (Although Costco has Disney princess costumes this year…) Stephanie shouldn’t be too hard — lots of costume shops should have a pink wig, and pink dresses are easy to come by. Sportacus is a little harder though.

She wants to be Stephanie for Hallowe’en and if I can’t find a costume I will be sewing the jumper. Everything else should be pretty easy. The hard part is that she wants my husband to dress as Sportacus (mmmmmm, my husband — Sportacus, mmmmmm) Oh, right, anyway — and I think his costume will be more problematic. I hope they come up with some quick merchandising! If they do, they will make a fortune!

Incidentally, when the songs start up, my daughter says,”It’s the dancing part!!!” and we all come running from different parts of the house so we can boogie down!

So, when I did I immediantly became obsessed with it and watched it for the rest of summer break. I’m 14 and I think I luv it more than anyone! I’m even trying to make my own CD since they’re not making one…

  65. I’m 18 and I was recently enlightened by this awsome little show (hey,I work in a daycare center!)umm,I was wondering if anyone knew the lyrics to that song that they sing. This has really been bugging me,man it’s just soo catchy!

    Comment by LaZyGiRl — September 17, 2004 @ 9:36 pm

  66. The Nick Jr Site has the lyrics for 4 of the songs… including that bing bang dinga dinga dong (or whatever) song.
I’m a grown woman and not a huge fan (Robbie Rotten really annoys me) but my 2 1/2 yr old nephew (who I babsit mon-fri), who is constantly moving and into everything every minute of every day actually SITS STILL through every ‘wazytown’ episode (I know, kind of defeats the purpose of the show) - and gives me a breather, so I am a fan of that! Oh, and we like Ziggy AKA ‘Sportacandy’
I just wish they’d show more… I’ve seen the cake episode 3 times already.

  67. My daughters love the show, but I have a problem with a TV show promoting exersize, etc., when the kids just sit there watching it! Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, they just want to watch more after it is over! Luckily, they have an 80’s mom, all we had when we were kids was atari which was so boring after a while we WANTED to go outside, which is were we spent most of our time, summer AND winter. So we will go be sporticus outside, not in front of the tv!~

  69. The first LazyTown episode that i saw on Nick Jr was the sports day episode. After watching that I kept wondering why the show was called LazyTown. Then one day I finally saw the first episode and everything started to make sense to me and to my little brother. Unlike most of the Nick Jr. shows, LazyTown concentrates more on teaching children how to stay active and healthy. What i really like about LazyTown are the songs. I also like the characters. I just hope that LazyTown stays around for a long time. You know what would be nice….. it’ll be nice to see a Lazytown Christmas Special where everybody in Lazytown would have a big Christmas party. My idea is that in this episode everyone would be playing in the snow and decorating the town. Then, of course you’ll have Robbie Rotten trying to ruin the celebration but at the end everyone would forgive Robbie and he will end up getting a present from the town that way he wouldn’t be left out on Christmas. What makes this episode special is that it will teach kids to forgive one another. I just hope that Magnus decides to make something like this.

  70. I’ll only post this once. My son is turning 3 October 14th, and he loves LazyTown. I’ve already ordered a video capture card so I can get them on my computer to make dvds out of each episode for him. VCRs suck, you know.

  71. I LOVE this show. My 3 yr old and I watched it 3 times today and every time it’s over he starts to get upset and say, “I want Robbie Rotten!” … (I say, “I want Sportacus!!” Hee hee… What a babe!) The idea for this show is FANTASTIC. When I read reviews before it came out and heard that kids actually get up and dance, I didn’t believe it - after all, he doesn’t usually participate with Dora prompting, “Get up please” - so what would change now? Boy was I wrong! He dances and moves during the show and afterwards will want an apple or carrots (something he rarely requested in the past.) This is great — PLEASE DON’T TAKE IT OFF THE AIR EVER!!

  72. Greetings everyone!
I’m so glad to see this forum on the Internet! It’s wonderful to know that so many people — especially parents and their children in America — love “Lazy Town.”

As a token of appreciation, here’s a little “gift” for those of you who like our “Bing Bang” song from “Lazy Town.” The gift? An Internet address that lets you hear the song in its original Icelandic!

    So, just go to:

    http://www.krakkabanki.is/utvarp/utvarp.swf

Then, click the “forward” button on the player’s *bottom* tool bar (the one directly below the word “Byrja.” The screen will change to a selection menu. Finally, choose selection number three, “Bing Bang.” Enjoy!

I am searching for a way to get a Stephanie costume, but i guess we will just have to get creative over the next few weeks. i love how this show motivates the kids to get up and dance. there alot of junk on TV and this is a definite winner. i really enjoy watching the show and learning the dances with my munchkin. it’s all good in our book. Go Go Go LazyTown!!!!!!

  75. Okay I am so glad I found this site. We are yet another family that LOVES LazyTown. Our daily schedule somewhat revolves around it. I have a 5 years old in afternoon Kindergarten and a 2 year old. My 10 year old daughter wants to be Stephanie for Halloween too!! I am looking at fabrics and wigs so if I come up with anything I will let you guys know here. Someone mentioned that they though Julianna (Stephanie) was on Broadway…she was in Oklahoma :-) I emailed the U.S. Director of Marketing in NY but never heard back from him about costumes or other merchandise so I am glad I heard it here.
Robbie Rotten definitley echoes Jim Carrey’s “Grinch” to me, but looking at the timeline it seems like maybe Jim Carrey took a hint or two from good ol’ Robbie huh? j/k He is hilarious and the kids love him too. I think the show does so much more than just teach about fitness and health when Robbie does mean things but they still save him when he gets in a pickle and include him in everything. Thank You Magnus and Nick Jr. for bringing this show into my kids’ lives.
(oh yeah does it need to be said that Sportacus is yummy beyond belief?? he he he)

  76. I was just searching the internet to get information on the cast…I love the show too. My 21 month old loves it. Compared to the Tubbies or Boobah it is so much better. My brain hurts after watching Boobah with her.

It has the look of a Dr. Seuss movie(hollywoods version)…but doesn’t bog down like those movies do. Maybe it’s because it’s only a 1/2 hour long.

  77. My 3 year old son loves Lazy Town! We have it on our Season Pass with TiVo! My son pretends to be Sportacus all the time! And he often gets up and dances when they are dancing on the show and when he plays the game on the Nick Jr. website!

I was hoping to find a Sportacus Halloween costume over the ‘Net and found this site instead–LOL!

I don’t mind the theme song too much–it’s catchy! And so much better than Caillou, Tubbies, or Boobah!

  78. Oh, this is great! My kids adore this show! We’ve got a TiVo season pass too. I don’t mind listening to the music over and over, its very catchy and it gets my kids moving (although at the moment one of the songs is stuck in my head). My daughter, Megan, wants to be Stephanie too, and my other daughter and son both want to be Sportacus.

I must agree that Sportacus is very nice to look at LOL But I won’t tell my kids that.

I was just flipping through the channels one day while at home and I think it was the day it premired on Nick Jr. I wanted to go upstairs and shower but I was so fascinated in the show that I couldn’t leave! I think it’s an awesome idea for a show yet it does confuse me a bit on the fact that’s it a TV show promoting kids not to sit inside and watch TV…but besides that it’s trully spectacular…and I’m 18 haha…I love the bright colors and music. I wish this show was on wehn I was a kid!

Then found some of Sportacus with blonde hair, I thought he was hot on the show, WOW is all I can say. What a great show! The songs even get me up and dancing! I wish I could get to the words of “Bing Bang”. You have to be able to print them off Nick Jr. and I can’t. :( OH, FOR THOSE WANTING COSTUMES, Nick Jr. does have the instructions to make a Stephanie and Sportacus costume. If you are crafty at that type of thing, as I am not. Just wanted to say hello to all the other fans. My son is 3 and he is always flying through the house being Sportacus and telling me I am Stephanie. What a great kept secret from us, thanks Nick Jr for picking it up. Too bad we can’t get their products YET. Keep up the great work! GO GO LAZYTOWN

He runs around the house with a Coleman belt on, sandles on his hands, and a Army helmet on his head, yelling, “I’m Sportacus”. I had never seen the program before, because he watches this at his daycare provider’s house. I looked into what it was about and I was surprised to find out it was about healthy eating and exercise. I think it’s so cool that there is a program out there supporting the way I am raising my child!!!

  84. Great show! I’m 19 years old… and have watched my little sister growing up incredibly “lazy” barely being active at all.. just wanting to watch tv and or play on the computer or other games…. and seince my twin sistera have been born i had been wondering how motivated they would be to run jump and play…. I saw this show open up on a network sponsered by nick .. then after a week or so it came on nick jr. i just turned it on every day it came on and let the 8 year old lead… its great to see them jump around singing and dancing trying to follow the main character’s every movements.. then when its over.. they instantly want to go try and play the sports and such that they play on the tv show… i’m very excited that this tv show has became so popular.. and i hope that it begins to play later in the day… possibly a few times after they get off of school.. i love this show and i’m glad that they can make the show not only fun but productive for the children.

  91. My favorite song is “Cooking by the Book” so far, and I’m a 30-year-old mom :) I just spent an hour listening to the Nick Jr. radio for Lazy Town and reading web posts about the show. I also hope there will be lots of merchandise and stuff revolving around this show, but with one caveat - I hope the message of healthy living will be built into any products that use this show’s star power to sell. I hope they will run promotions that teach kids and adults to eat healthy and sleep well and exercise, and bring down sales of soda pop and candy in the states noticeably, just as the craze did in Iceland (per post on Nick Jr’s Lazy Town message board).

Visually, it was so captivating I had to switch over from a Football game to see what it was about. Then Stephanie started singing some bubble gum techno rock song and I was totaly enthralled. The ending song overjoys him and he dances all over our living room. I believe he also has a crush on Stephanie. As for me, I have a crush on Sportacus. 104. Is it wrong that many of my friends who are in college are completely fascinated with the 13 year old pink haired girl? My two guy friends, chuck and joe both watched it for the first time last week with Joe’s 3 year old. Then they woke me up in time to see the end song. I have to say I was horrified to the point of infatuation. I had no idea what I was watching, as I rarely understand kids shows anymore, but I knew this tiny pink thing had me under her psycho power.

So the next day we all made sure to wake up in time to watch it again. Yeah…same effect.

The pink girl. Adorable. I just want to squeeze the little thing and buy it ice cream.

Then she sings and we all just sit there.

I dont know where Im going with this, but when she’s legal…I’ll be 26 and waiting. Hopefully she’ll still have pink hair.

  114. I LOVE THIS SHOW - and hope it stays on for a while. The themes, story lines, characters, morals they teach youngsters - Oh, it’s all great! And the theme song is WONDERFUL - I catch myself singing it now. My baby loves to dance to it. And when the show comes on, he always stops whatever he’s doing to watch and dance.

This show is amazing, and I HIGHLY recommend it to all. Being fat is gross - but being overweight is just not healthy, and too many took the “anorexic” thing way too far. Now too many people are Over Their Limit, and very unhealthy - so it backfired on those dummies who thought they were educating folks on anorexcia (too bad they did it the WRONG way) and thought they were doing it so smartly. I’m glad someone finally stood up, and said “Stop!” and did a show to teach the next generation of kids that eating well, and taking care of yourself is how to beat bad health problems (ie. anorexia) and obesity.

Exercise is not so we can be super models - it is for our health and well-being; just like eating and brushing our teeth. Exercise should be part of daily life, just as walking and breathing are. Thanks Sporticus & Stephanie & all the gang at Lazy Town!

  115. I just happened upon this show one Saturday morning and was captivated within the first ten seconds of seeing it.

The way that they blend the “real” people, the puppets and the background together is fantastic and eerily strange. And the one song that I did catch was really catchy and cool.

The little girl with the pink hair is the star attraction of the show, in my opinion. She is the most adorable, darling little pink puffball that a grown woman could ever develop a strange kind of fetish for.

It’s been a looonngg time since I have seen something this refreshing and appealing on the boob toob.

    Glad I found it.

  130. Revision to my last comment:

Question: Where can I get the music that’s in each episode?

Answer: Unfortunately, the music is not yet available for purchase, but you can hear LazyTown songs on Nick Jr. Radio.

Question: Are there any LazyTown products?

Answer: Not yet, but check major retailers and the Nick Jr. Shop starting in fall 2005.

  131. I’m a 25 yr old mommie with an 8 month old baby. I stumbled on to the show and i thought it was amazing…especially sportacus…the little girl is 13 and was on brodway or something but there is alot of info at nickjr.com’s message board. as soon as there is some lazy town merchandise i’m gonna put it up on my website. i hope they get a sportacus action figure soon. my baby doesn’t seem to like it as much as i do and my boyfriend can’t stand it.

  132. I hate to admit it, but I’m sixteen and I love the show even though I’m too old for stuff like that Lazy Town is the exception-Sportacus is fine,Stephanie’s cool and the show makes me wish I could do all that gymnastics stuff Spotacus can do,maybe I’ll work on that…

  133. I hate to say it but my 5 and 2 year old love this show. Mommy does also.. I love Sportacus and could watch him flip and bend and do one handed pushups all day long. Whoo hoo! Thanks for making a character that in my book is smart, health and HOTT!

  134. My son, almost age 5, absolutely loves this show. He especially loves Spartacus, whom he dances around the house after watching the show, acting like. He even makes the swish sounds as he takes off to do whatever deed it is that he needs to. It’s actually quite comical.

  136. I am 23 years old and everyday that lazytown comes I watch it with my children. I love Lazytown. Stephanie and Sportacus are so great. I always watch Lazytown and I always will. I also love the songs me and my children always sing along.

  138. OK is it just me or does anyone else out there watch “Lazy Town” simply to see Sporticus in his tight blue pants? I find myself planning my morning around “Lazy Town”! My husband thinks I’m crazy! Maybe I’m just another “Desperate Housewife” (which is another great show by the way). We should start a “Sporticus” fan site!

  143. I love to watch Lazytown with my 17 month old little girl. She loves to see mommy dance and sing along. I have a feeling that pretty soon she is going to start wanting to do flips and tumbles like Sportacus and I am going to have to get a safety mat for my wood floors. And yes, this 27 year old thinks Sportacus looks really nice in blue. Hum…

    Comment by Jennifer — December 14, 2004 @ 6:53 pm

  144. Wow! I am so glad I am not alone! My 5 year old LOVES this show! We watch it BOTH times that it comes on each day….and we have to tape it so she(we) can watch it when it is not on TV. I am a 37 year old mom of 3 and yes, I think Sportacus is SO completely awesome, hot, fine, etc! If I am cleaning house when the show comes on, I can’t seem to stop myself from stopping by the tv for 30 min. Also I can not wait for merchandise to come out for sale. I would love to decorate her room in “Lazy Town” everything!

  145. Hi,
I have 3 girls, 4 1/2, 2 and a 7 months old. My two oldest love the show and gets up and dances around like crazy. Went to Nick. Jr and got the lyrics.. So now they sing the songs all the time.. My Oldest adores Stephanie and will only wear pink.. My 2 year old is totally crushing on Sportycus ( Looking for a poster of him for Christmas). I watch the show with them and I love the bright colors the funny stories and characters. But……. I WANT MORE episodes…
    GREAT show.
Being Danish myself ( yeah Denmark is also part of Scandinavia) it is nice to have my kids watch something that isn’t about monsters and voilence. They only get to watch 1 hour tops a day and this is one of the show I do like them to watch - the other is usually Backyardigans.. another great show.

  146. hi,
im 17 years old, and a guy, and i get home early from school everyday, and i was flipping through the channels one day and saw lazytown. I thought it was very original and thought it was sweet how they mixed the techno and puppets and people and even a positive message! but about the second time i saw i noticed something that scared me, i find myself inexplicably attracted to stephanie! shes 13 right? so im not hardcore pedophile right ? …. and also i would love to become as buff and agile as sportacus, that would be sweet.

  147. Google is such an amazing thing…I found this posting due to seeing this LAZYTOWN today while surfing with my son. I was captivated by something while watching this, and saw a tiny flash of words at the end that said something about Iceland. I had some neat friends from my napster days and I decided I had to see what this show was all about. Iceland is a gorgeous place that seems to always pop up in my life, even though I am in Texas! I think there must be a subliminal message hidden in this show, as it makes you WANT to watch it. I am 36, and far from the target audience. I am glad to see that I was not the only one.
Every time I see or think of some obscure thing from day to day, I try to remember to “google that” when I get home. This is a classic example of a good hit on a search!

    Cheers,

  149. it’s a different kind of show, but, it’s cool! Sporticus is so athletic & Stephanie is so cute! my 3 yr old daughter loves this show! she loves to dance to the songs, esp. “Bing Bang” at the end. it’s kind of refreshing, actually.

    Comment by darren — December 22, 2004 @ 12:09 am

  150. Yeah, I’m obsessed too. My 3yo dances to the music, my 5 yo loves Robbie’s pratfalls, and I of course watch Sportacus. Watching Magnus S., a 40yo guy leaping around has indeed gotten me back into the exercise habit. I also love the new exercise shorts-where he’s doing the ‘energy run’ or jumping rope. My five year old is calling out ‘time to exercise’ and we do it together. (Except the one-handed, one-legged pushup; not quite that fit yet) Does Mr. Scheving have an exercise video as himself, or considered one as Sportacus? I’ll watch it first for my cardio, then actually do it!

  153. Just to put my two cents in. I think Lazytown is Great. It bugged me the first couple of times I saw it but then I left it on for my 19&3/4ths month old (she was 18 months at the time) and she just loves it! She hates all NickJr shows except it and Backyardigans. We dont watch much t.v. bu tthis is one we rarely miss.
I too looked for the merch and the only merchandise I know of is the Icelandic merchandise (see Lazytown.com) and even the Lazytown corp. is sold out.

  154. I really enjoy watching Lazytown with my four year old son. It has a positive upbeat feel and promotes good television in a world where there is so much wrong being shown on tv anymore. Thank you Mr. Sheving for creating this awesome show. I want to see more along with my son.

  159. I just wanted to let you all know that I think LazyTown is absolutely wonderful!!!! I have 3 daughters (9, and twins almost 2)and let me tell you when that show is on I we stop whatever we maybe doing to watch it!!! We live on a military base and I have been calling all of my friends to let them know about the show!!!! I also call a few select friends to let them know that Sportacus is on. OMG I just love that man…when I am in a bad mood he just makes things better. My friends think I am crazy but I dont care he is a cutie-patootie and he is deffinately on my “to do list”!!! As a matter of fact the twins go down for a nap and I can watch the first show of the day by myself :oP If you all know where I can find some pictures of this handsome man that would be wonderful (with or with out his costume)(I mean in plain clothes).

We love Lazy Town and think that Nick Jr. is doing a great job of providing shows to the younger crowd. Keep up the good work!!!

  161. I was surfing http://www.imdb.com you can find alot of information about Lazytown if you go to lazytown and look at the people working in Lazytown. Gudmumdur Thor (Ziggy) has photogallery and official site. The cinematographer, Tomas Orn T, has also official site where you can see video previews and production photogallery. Magnus Sheving has a mini biography and Julianna Rose has a photographs from Oklahoma.

Cool stuf!!! I love Lazy Town, if anyone knows more good places to find information about the show, send it in

  162. Mr. Magnus Scheving created an awesome show to get kids motivated. If you watch this show and it doesn’t put you into a mood to get up and dance, then maybe there is something wrong with you. Also Mr. Scheving is a very handsome looking man if I may say so. Also if you would see the website for Stefan Karl as Robbie, he is also good looking w/o the makeup.

  164. My three and four year old girls love Lazytown and never want to miss it. My three year old used to be really picky about eating fruit and veggies but now we say “What does Sportacus say?” “It’s sports candy!” and she’ll eat them. And she also dances like crazy to the songs. As the mom who ends up watching this stuff with them it’s really a refreshing break from the tedium and repetition of things like Barney etc and it sends great messages. And I have to agree with previous posters–Sportacus is super hot! Can’t think of a kid’s tv star who’s better looking (he’s only competing with the likes of Spongebob and co, but still). It makes the show worth watching just to see Magnús Scheving do his handstand push-ups, mid-air splits and all the rest of the amazing things he does. The man is STRONG, and flexible, and good with kids–how can we resist? Plus he saves a little kitten in one episode–aww! (Alas, where is the Sportacus desktop wallpaper? When will there be a North American Sportacus live? ;) ) And of course you have to respect a man who creates, stars in, etc etc his own show and entertainment empire that’s good for kids (kind of like Smoochy in that movie, Death to Smoochy without being as saccharine). Probably they counted on Sportacus being very marketable to all us moms and “desperate housewives” but hey, if I’m part of the target demographic I don’t care :) I’m sure this one’s going to be a phenomenon. And PS, my mom’s born in Helsinki and no, Finland isn’t technically Scandinavian.

  172. I LOVE THIS SHOW. I’m 13 years old with a love for cartoon-like shows. I usually watch Jacob Two Two after school, and I was disappointed when it got shifted half an hour later. But when I decided to hang around and see what show had been added, I became OBSESSED! I watch it regularly like every day now, after school(But, whoah, I don’t miss Jacob Two Two!!!). Most of my friends think I’m crazy already (and I’m proud of it, too) but they’re all obsessed with Strawberry Shortcake and Dora the Explorer, so that’s ok!

SPORTACUS! You gotta love him! I mean the character, aside from being creator, producer, bla bla bla. Even SUPERMAN couldn’t do half those moves, and he’s ANIMATED! Ohmygod! And that AWESOME mustashe!!!! I just want to POKE IT! I don’t know WHAT i’d do to meet Magnus Scheving, he’s amazing!

Oh, and did anybody know that for some of the moves Sportacus has a stunt double? Forget his name, but hes right hot, too.

Does anybody know where I can get some LazyTown Merch.? I remember seeing a pink sweater with a star on it that said ‘Stephanie’ on it, and I thought it was on the http://www.lazytown.com but now I can’t find it! I am a poor unfortunate soul, now:(

  177. I adore the show as does my 2 year old. I live in Germany and get tapes of it in the mail from my mother in the US. I have watched the same 6 or 7 shows for months and I am still in love with this show. The music is infectious and my daughter dances and jumps and sings the whole time. Robbie Rotten makes me laugh all the time with his villanous half-baked schemes. Stephan Karl is marvelous in the role and I could watch him all day with his silly facial expressions and perfect delivery of his dialogue. Julianna Rose Mauriello is just the cutest little girl and I love her too.

I am just aching to get this on DVD and a soundtrack would be wonderful too! I keep the graphic from the website on my computer desktop for my daughter to see and she delights at the very sight of sporticus.

I would also like to add that she wants me to call her Siggy and Sporticandy because she likes him the best of all the charactors.

I hope this show goes on for a long while…
