Okay, maybe you need the drugs.
I had to get back down to San Jose from San Carlos to get Darin, because we had an appointment at Stanford at 5 and then get to Palo Alto at 6:30 for Megan's surprise birthday party at Buca di Beppo. 20 of Megan and Josh's close, personal friends showed up to wish her a happy birthday. Turns out that Darin and I were the surprise in the surprise party--Megan had no idea we were in town. She gave us this wide-eyed stare like, "What the heck are you two doing here?" I probably won't produce that reaction too many times in my life: might as well get used to it. Buca di Beppo serves food family-style--that is, large troughs designed to satisfy the Red Army. The food just kept coming and coming, and it was all insanely tasty. There was so much food that they needed to box up a ton of it, and people like Greg (who got 3 boxes) made out like bandits. The best part, however, wasn't the meal but the dessert, which was not from the restaurant. It was a chocolate chocolate-chip cake that Megan and her sister have been making for one another for years, and it was so good. Yum. |
