A friend had one of his plays produced in London last year, and he flew across the pond to see how rehearsals were coming along. The director, some hot thing straight outta Oxbridge, interpreted the line "sitting shiva" as a cue to splay arms a la the Hindu deity. And the characters, American college professors, were given hayseed / "Deliverance" accents. Bad ones at that. Given that the play was days away from production, my friend was not amused. Funny!
